2020 Edward Gorey House Season Update

Edward Gorey House 2020 Season Update
He Wrote It All Down Zealously

Thank you for dropping in to visit the Edward Gorey House. As you may have suspected, our regularly-scheduled season has been upended by global pandemics out of our control. Normally we have a handle on these things. Our Opening Day of April 9th has been postponed to another yet-to-be-determined date—hopefully one before next April 9th. Our optimistic goal is to open by May 1st—we will evaluate just how dangerous you seem to us at that point. Our 2020 Exhibit is up and ready and wonderful. Our docent staff have been fitted in bright yellow plastic jumpsuits (which is a step up from the stuff they usually wear). We await a prudent and safe time to open the House, so please be patient. You’ll find more about our 2020 Exhibit on this website. Our online store is ready to occupy your time as well. We truly hope to see you very, very soon.

Feel free to contact the House if you have questions.

Thank you,

Updates From Our Blog

In the Fall of 2019 the Edward Gorey Charitable Trust allowed the House to borrow several boxes of Gorey’s notebooks, journals, folders, and binders of material for use in this year’s exhibit. In pouring over the contents (a nice way to spend a winter) of what would become our 2020 exhibit He wrote it all down Zealously, it quickly became apparent that the List was a defining component. A curator’s lament: the amount of material was overwhelming—and the handwriting challenging—and so the final assembly, whittled down to fit in the House’s galleries, was selected for variety and some semblance of narrative flow.
